As I reflect on the incredible launch of my children’s book, Emilio the Emoo!, I am filled with gratitude and excitement. We got together yesterday at Starbucks in Dundrum Town Centre, for a festive celebration of storytelling, community, and the beautiful message at the heart of Emilio’s tale – embracing our unique selves.
The event was an unforgettable afternoon that brought together my friends, family, loved ones, and community members to celebrate inclusion, self-love, and the power of being different. It was such a privilege to have Councillor Michael Fleming officially open the event. His kind words about Emilio the Emoo! – describing it as a reminder of the strength in individuality – captured the very essence of what I hoped to convey in writing this story.
One of the most magical moments of the event for me was when my nephew brought Emilio to life during his reading. The laughter and smiles of the children in the audience were pure joy to witness. Moments like that remind me why I write. I have always believed that stories have the power to connect us, inspire us, and teach us to celebrate who we are, and yesterday really showed me just how true that is.
Our celebration wasn’t just about Emilio, though – it was also about giving back, something I’m passionate about. I was thrilled for Emu Ink to partner with Jigsaw, The National Centre for Youth Mental Health, and for 10% of all book sales from the event to go to Jigsaw. Jigsaw plays a vital role in supporting children and young people across Ireland, and it felt like this charity was the perfect partner for Emilio’s launch. As Justin McDermott, Jigsaw’s Fundraising Manager, highlighted, stories like Emilio’s are a powerful tool for fostering kindness, inclusion, and resilience – values that align so closely with their mission.
Of course, no festive event would be complete without treats! Children enjoyed hot chocolate and goodies, while adults warmed up with coffee and mince pies. It was truly a day I’ll never forget, it really meant the world to me and I feel so lucky to have such a loving, supportive family, team, and community.
If you couldn’t join us, Emilio the Emoo! is now available to order through Emu Ink Publishing. I hope Emilio’s journey touches your heart as much as it did mine while writing it.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support the launch, to Jigsaw for partnering with us, and to Starbucks for their kind and generous hosting.
Here’s to more stories, more laughter, and always embracing the magic of being different.
